Indications for ventilated patients

Assisted ventilation for different diseases

ventilation therapy

Assisted mechanical ventilation is required for a number of different indications. These include not only lung-related diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or cystic fibrosis, but also certain neuromuscular and neurological diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and multiple sclerosis (MS).

Ventilation therapy may also be needed for severe injuries of the spinal cord, brain or chest, and conditions associated with hypoxic brain damage. Finally, patients with fibrotic lesions following tuberculosis infection or with post-polio syndrome as well as certain congenital and heart diseases often require assisted ventilation.
